Crown Berger Donates To Sinai Victims (14th Sep 2011)
Leading paint manufacturer Crown Berger has donated 500 blankets to the victims of the Sinai fire admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital following a fire that gutted down part of the slum on Monday after a leak from Kenya Pipeline Company’s oil supply system.
Speaking while visiting the patients at the hospital, Mr. Rakesh Rao, the Chief Executive Officer, Crown Berger expressed sympathy with the victims as the country went through a national day of mourning.
“This is a very unfortunate scenario in the country, we should always ensure safety first when in contact with any hazardous situations,” he said.
While receiving the donation, Corporate Affairs Manager at the Kenyatta National Hospital Mr. Simon Ithai said that he was humbled by the response.
“We made an appeal to the public to donate blood, blankets and other medical supplies that would help us take better care of the patients. We are humbled and appreciate the overwhelming support,” he said.
He confirmed that the hospital had admitted 97 casualties; about ten of them require intensive care. Five people have succumbed to fatal injuries since Monday. The current number of those confirmed dead is about 100.
A counseling centre and a missing persons unit has been set up at the Tom Mboya Social hall in Makadara to help manage the aftermath of the fire tragedy. The centre will also coordinate information on burial arrangements and manage the identification of people who either died or were admitted to various hospitals.
