We recently posted an article on how to decorate a boy’s room and today we shall focus on girls. It’s generally easier to deal with girls than boys since girls always stick to one thing for longer periods of time. Even if their hobbies change, they stick to one colour theme or décor idea for longer than a boy would.
A girl’s room needs a brightly coloured décor theme. Think of a colour that she likes or will be comfortable with. The best idea is to go with something floral for the décor theme and complement it with bright colours. If she doesn’t like the floral theme. The next best option is to go with the idea of what they like to do. Her hobbies or favorite cartoon would work well as the room’s theme.
Once you have the décor theme picked out, you have to decide on a colour. The room is mean to be a place to relax and you should avoid using screaming colours. Go for something natural that will have a cool and calming effect. Girls usually go through phases where certain colours are their favorite. They might want to paint the room in that colour. You can go with that and paint it in different shades to create a certain effect. Whatever colour you agree on should match up with the rest of the room’s décor.
Furniture is also quite important in decorating a girl’s room. You have to find dressers, beds and chairs that she will love and be comfortable with. Keep in mind that as she grows up, her taste will change. Go for something that will appeal to her for longer periods of time. Get dressers that come with mirrors as it will help her have a place to check her appearance as she gets dressed. Get bedside tables that will hold her favorite books and toys. Girls usually have a lot of things in their room. Keep this in mind when picking the furniture and ensure that hey will allow for storage while stilling having space in the room.
Once you have the bed and other furniture picked out, it’s time to consider what bedding to go for. You should choose something that matches the colour of the walls. Get bedding with pictures of her favorite cartoons or hobbies. Let the activities she gets up to during the day dictate what kind of duvet to get her. Use decorative pillows to style the bed and let her decide how to place each pillow.
Girls love having lots of accessories. Some can be stored in the bedroom, but you have to think of what to do with the ones that need to be in her room. If she has to have hair ties in her room, use them as part of the room’s décor. Tie them to bed posts or lamps to create a decorative effect. Place her oils and hair products strategically around the room in decorative places. Don’t crowd them in one place.
A girl’s room is easier to style than a boy’s room. Take her ideas and blend them with yours and have fun in styling the place. Remember to keep it simple and she should love whatever you come up with.
