Colour Therapy and Its Healing Power

Colour therapy can be defined as a system of alternative medicine based on the use of colour, especially projected coloured light. It is also referred to as chromotherapy. It is all about making use of the energies colours have to offer to improve someone’s health.

Colour can affect your thoughts and emotions. We mostly use it to set certain moods which is why it is important to think critically about the colours you want to use in your home or office. Colour therapy is all about jump starting the body and giving you an internal boost that will help your body heal.

Colour therapy, can be implemented in a number of ways. The ancients built great halls of colour healing, where individuals entered and were bathed in light that was filtered through various coloured glass panels or windows. Energy (spiritual) healers often supplement their healing work with colour healing. As they lay their hands on the patient, they mentally direct specific colour rays into the patient’s aura and body.

Here are a few colours and the qualities they offer in colour therapy.

Red – Red brings warmth, energy and stimulation. It is therefore good for giving you energy particularly when you are fatigued or have colds. Red energizes heart and blood circulation, it builds up the blood and heightens a low blood pressure. It stimulates ovulation and menstruation.

Red links with and stimulates the root chakra, at the base of the spine, causing the adrenal glands to release adrenalin. This results in greater strength.

Orange – Orange is warm, cheering and non-constricting. Orange has a freeing action upon the body and mind, relieving repressions. When you have your walls pointed orange or accessorise with orange, it stimulates creative thinking and enthusiasm, and helps assimilate new ideas. It is also helpful in dealing with excess sexual expression.

Yellow – Yellow is a very common colour to have on walls or accessories. It helps strengthen nerves and awakens mental inspired. Yellow stimulates the solar plexus, or psychic center. It can be used for psychic burnout as it activates and cheers up depressed and melancholic people.

If you happen to have shooting pains, a darker shade of yellow is most appropriate for you.

Purple – If you happen to be melancholic, hysterical or suffer from alcohol addiction, purple is the best colour to have around you. The colour will soothe you and reduce your mental strength. It’s the perfect colour to aid you in meditating and having a relaxed and focused mind at all times.

Green – Green is the colour of nature and earth. It creates balance and harmony in the room. Green links with and stimulates the heart chakra. Green affects blood pressure and all conditions of the heart. It has both an energizing effect and a moderating or soothing effect.

When it comes to colour therapy, it’s all about the chakras in your body. Think of them as wheels then envision the colours oiling the clogs and making them run smoothly. Even though colours heal the mind and body, you shouldn’t over do it. Go easy on the colour and avoid any that makes you uncomfortable as it will not heal but rather make you feel worse.
